Who is Lizzie Keays??
Elizabeth Keays was born at the Glen in the year 1853, the daughter of Irish immigrant farmers. She lived in Warrensburg most of her life. The majority or her adult life was spent working right here, at the Empire Shirt Factory as a seamstress or more specifically, a sleeve fitter. She died in 1927 and is buried in St. Cecilia’s Cemetery next to her mother and father.

                                                Why Lizzie Keays??
One of the most frequent statements that you will hear from townspeople is “My mother worked here,” or “My grandmother worked here.” Lizzie Keays represents the 3 generations of “every woman” who labored here. By honoring her, we hope to honor and dignify not just all of her era, but all who worked here and also in similar factories and workshops around the region and across the Northeast.
